π Semantic Content Audit Checklist
There is an important check I have in my semantic content audit checklistβ¦
It helps NLP (Natural Language Processing) β used by search engines β to better understand natural language written by humans π§ π¬.
- π Itβs not about making the content look robotic π€β
- π Itβs about providing the proper context for the words used in a sentence πβ¨
π‘ Context Term Audit
I call this a CONTEXT TERM AUDIT πποΈ
Context terms help NLP systems disambiguate the meanings of words and phrases β so they can better understand the context of other words π§ π.
π Benefits of Disambiguation
- β Text classification π·οΈ
- β Information extraction π
- β Machine translation ππ¬
π How to Perform the Audit
Letβs take an example of the following sentence:
"She went to the bank."
The context of the word "bank" in this sentence is ambiguous π€
That "bank" could be:
- π¦ A financial institution
- π The side of a river
π οΈ Add Context Terms
- βοΈ She went to the bank [to deposit her paycheck.] π΅π¦
- βοΈ She went to the bank [to feed the ducks at the river.] π¦π
- βοΈ She went to the bank [to sit and read her book in the quiet.] ππͺ
π All the context terms (in brackets) help search engines better understand the overall context of the sentence.
π― Why This Matters
That understanding helps search engines make more informed decisions when interpreting natural human language.
π The better search engines understand your content, the more chances it will rank higher ππ
π Scaling Context Term Audits
π€ Train a Large Language Model (LLM) to provide sentence examples with and without context terms.
π₯ You'll be surprised to see how many sentences in your content lack context terms β and how big a difference it can make!
